GLP-1 agonists are a significant development in weight management, particularly for those with type 2 diabetes. They work by mimicking a natural hormone (glucagon-like peptide-1), helping regulate appetite and promote a feeling of fullness. This can lead to reduced food intake and support weight loss.

While they are both GLP-1 agonists, Zepbound is unique because it also activates glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors. Zepbound's active ingredient is tirzepatide, while Ozempic is semaglutide.  

Mounjaro has the same ingredient as Zepbound which is tirzepatide, while Wegovy has the same ingredient as Ozempic which is semaglutide.  

Zepbound is FDA approved for chronic weight management in adults.  It is indicated for adults with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) or those overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) with at least one weight-related condition.  In 2024, Zepbound was also approved by the FDA for treating moderate-to-severe sleep apnea.

The FDA has approved Ozempic for adults with type 2 diabetes for several purposes: to improve blood sugar control alongside diet and exercise, to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease.

There are two methods for injecting the medication: you may choose to have an autoinjector wherein you press a button and the medication self delivers into your area of choice such as the thigh or the stomach.  The other option includes a vial and syringes to self administer (this option is generally less expensive).   If self injecting is overwhelming, we do in house injections for an additional fee.
