When performing IV therapy, maintain a sterile environment. Double check concentrations and mix ingredients accordingly. Add ons are only allowed if not included in the regular ingredient list. Perform 5Rs prior to administration.
For signs and symptoms consistent with anaphylaxis
(more than one organ system involved):
ACTION
An antihistamine and anticholinergic that is an H1 receptor antagonist in the GI tract, blood vessels and
respiratory tract.
INDICATION
· Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
· Extrapyramidal syndrome/symptoms (secondary to Droperidol or Risperidone)
CONTRAINDICATIONS
· Allergy to diphenhydramine
· Acute asthma attacks
PRECAUTIONS
· Use caution in elderly patients due to sedation and anticholinergic properties
· Local tissue necrosis
ACTION
A hormone, neurotransmitter and alpha, beta1 and beta2 agonist, resulting in relaxation of smooth muscles (bronchodilation), cardiac stimulation (increasing inotropy, chronotropy and myocardial oxygen demand). Small doses cause vasodilation, while large doses produce constriction of skeletal and vasculature smooth muscle.
INDICATION
· Anaphylaxis
CONTRAINDICATIONS
· IV administration outside of cardiac arrest
